Amber Hostel

I booked well ahead, then tried to cancel within 24 hours. The owner said cancellations were only allowed several dozen days before arrival, a policy I found unreasonably strict. I asked politely for an exception, but after that communication became unpleasant. He was extremely rude on the phone, and his aggressive, unprofessional manner made me decide not to go ahead with the stay, even though it meant losing my money. A terrible experience. During the call, he even suggested I leave a negative review, so here it is.

The manager is always around to help and really goes the extra mile. When I arrived with an unusual request because I collect coins, I was given an example of every Polish coin, plus a whole heap of other currencies. Thanks for that. It’s also reassuring that the manager sleeps on site, which is incredibly rare these days and matters in case of an emergency or intrusion. My room was great and quiet, the bed comfortable, and the shower and bathrooms excellent. Facilities were fine too. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the central bus and train station and the old town. The best hostels have the best managers.

The staff were kind and attentive, and everything was kept really clean. I also liked being able to make tea or coffee for free whenever I wanted. It had what I needed for a stopover, and the location made getting around easy, with the bus station, Old Town, and plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops just a short walk away. 👍🏽👌🏽

It felt more like a hotel than a hostel. The bathroom was spacious, with great water pressure and very hot water. My room had two twin beds with regular duvet covers, plus a small oven, two burners, and a big wardrobe. You collect the linens from the desk when you check in.
