Hotel Matejko

The location was a real plus, with the city centre and train and bus station close by, plus shops, markets, restaurants, and bars on both sides of the hotel. We stayed in the big red room with a balcony. It felt like -7 outside, so we didn't spend long out there, though it was nice to have the option. The room and its furnishings were a little worn, but that wasn't much of a drawback when we were mainly out exploring for a few days. A slightly more comfortable bed would have made a big difference. Despite what some reviews say, our room, sheets, and bathroom were very clean. The room was also warm enough for the continental winter weather outside.

The team made my stay feel easy and calm, and I'm grateful to all of them. They helped me with a late check-in after I arrived at 01:00 am, with clear communication and a friendly, smooth process. My room was clean, and the shower had all the essentials plus perfectly hot water. Breakfast was fresh, tasty, and varied. The dining room window looked out onto a church, which was lovely.

The staff were kind and wonderful, always in touch and ready to help, and the hotel was very quiet, with no street noise since the street isn't really a roadway. Rooms were very clean, with good bedding and soap and shower gel. It's a great hotel in the city centre, about 10 minutes from the old town. Nearby is a wonderful place called "Polish cuisine", where portions are huge and prices very reasonable. We'll definitely come back.

Breakfast was outstanding, with a huge range of sweet and savory choices. The waitress was prompt and kept replenishing the trays. I also appreciated the luggage storage after checkout. The hotel is just outside Kraków's historic centre, on a beautifully refurbished square, and makes a handy base for bus or train trips around the area. Reception staff were friendly, apart from one girl who was cold but still efficient. The spacious, quiet rooms are reached by stairs or lift. Everything looks a little dated, but the furniture and appliances all work well and the place is clean. I would have liked some hooks in the bathroom for towels or clothes. A good place to stay when visiting Kraków and its surroundings.
