City Central Apartments - Old Town

It’s bearable for a one-night hostel stay, but the room is tiny and the service was poor. The room lock didn’t work, and the operator did nothing to fix it. They also take a deposit at check-in. The price shown on the website is one thing, but what you actually pay is different.

The room was very clean and had everything we needed, including a modern bathroom. The hostel’s great, and the city is beautiful. The location is only a two-minute walk from Market Square. A friendly woman at reception told us everything we needed to know to enjoy our time in the city. Thanks, we hope to return. I recommend a visit.

The rooms are bright and comfortable, with heating, a TV, enough hanging space and a handy little desk. The bathroom, shared by only three rooms, was fairly clean. There’s no kitchen, but a small shared fridge and microwave for those same three rooms, and the Wi-Fi worked well. Just a heads-up, the entrance is at the back of the building, which confused me at first. It’s good value and right in the middle of things. There’s even a cat cafe next door with no cover charge. It doesn’t really have a hostel feel since there are no common rooms, so it may not suit you if you’re hoping to meet people.

The apartment was in poor shape and looked far worse than the listing photos and description. It also faced a busy street, with trams and cars passing late into the night. There was a large rulebook listing damage fees, but nothing useful like a map or instructions for the washing machine. The worst part came after checkout, when City Central Apartments accused us of having “destroyed” the toilet seat and charged us for the repair. We had noticed it wobbled, but assumed it was a cheap, ill-fitting seat and didn't check underneath. I explained that it had already been loose and wasn't sure how a guest could break it beyond ordinary wear on cheap materials. They said we had to pay because we hadn't reported it. At the time, it didn't seem worth mentioning while we were busy enjoying our holiday. The whole thing felt unfair and was really disappointing. The employees were so rude during the dispute that dealing with them was almost upsetting, and the business struck me as a bit dodgy. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
