Dom Wczasowy Jasny Palac

The view from the windows was quite lovely. Lunch on my school trip cost around 20 zl and was pretty tasty, but breakfast was another story. “Thank you for sandwiches?” I’ll leave the shower out of it.

The location was great, and that’s the only reason for the two stars. The room balcony had no view, even though it was advertised as having a mountain view. The rest was a nightmare.

The balcony looked out toward Giewont Mountain, and the guesthouse is close to Krupówki Street. But the quality didn’t match the PLN 308 per night for two people. The historic building is badly run-down, with no elevator, and room 12 was so cramped it was hard to move without knocking your feet against the bed. Its worn floor needs sanding, and the tiny bathroom needs renovating urgently. There was no bubble bath, shampoo or hairdryer, just one small towel per person and no fresh ones during our two-night stay. The room had a single bedside lamp for two, a kettle but no tea or coffee, and no mineral water. Breakfast had enough food, including sausages, scrambled eggs, cold cuts and cheeses, but little variety and no fruit or jam. Parking cost another PLN 20 per night. Reception was in another hotel about 150 meters from Bright Palace and closed at 7:00 PM, which is absurd.

At least the place was warm during the freezing winter, even if it got cooler at night. We also got discounts at a few pubs and a ticket for Gubałówka. That was about all I liked. The dining room had fairly nice decor, but the property otherwise didn’t feel much like a palace. The reception was 150 meters away in another building, an unwelcome hassle after a 10-hour trip. The interiors and furniture were old, beyond the historic palace style. The room was okay for a few days, but its scratched door let hallway light and noise through. I’d booked a double bed, which had supposedly been split into two for accessibility. The electric kettle’s flap kept falling off. In the bathroom, the oversized toilet seat didn’t fit the bowl, the toilet paper holder swung around, and the shower head holder kept spinning until we wrapped it to hold it in place. Those little failures felt careless and made basic comfort an issue. Breakfast was the same each day, with cucumbers and tomatoes that seemed to be left out day after day. On our last morning it wasn’t laid out, but served in small amounts at the table because there were few guests. We had just one loaf of bread, some dried-out cheese on our tray, and four sausages from the lady, one of them from a different batch. Two stars feels deserved. Still, thanks to the kitchen and other service staff for their excellent work.
