U Bohaca

A quiet, nice place about a 15-minute walk from the center. The owner is warm and very kind, and the rooms are large and clean. Breakfast is homemade. I recommend it.

The setting is peaceful and scenic, with a roomy balcony looking toward Giewont. Krupówki Street is about a 10-minute walk, and there’s a shop and a restaurant nearby where the food is delicious. I’ve stayed here three times, and every visit has been fantastic. The owners are so kind and welcoming, the rooms are clean with lovely-smelling linens, and the bathroom is well cared for with complimentary toiletries. Breakfast has plenty to choose from, and it’s always fresh and tasty. I’d happily book here again if I return to Zakopane.

Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. We were served two sausages at the office, one fruit yogurt for two, a little cheap yellow cheese, and a few slices of dry bread, with no rolls. Don’t expect anything hot like scrambled eggs. After paying 600 PLN for two people for two nights, even a liter of water in a thermos in the morning seemed too much to ask. The room was also cold in autumn and winter: the owners heat it for only three hours at night, and from 1 a.m. it gets so chilly that you need a space heater. My fiancée got sick after staying in this “cold storage” at U Bohaca. I found the owners stingy, in line with the legend of stingy, crafty highlanders. I wouldn’t recommend staying here in the colder months unless you bring a heater.

We felt like we were intruding at breakfast. They put out two sausages, some cheese, and a stick of butter, and you have to ask the highlander for bread or more butter. We’re not picky and I always book breakfast, but this one was a disaster. The place and the conditions were okay, though. I won’t stay here again.
