Stay At Mare

Nobody was around to help, so this didn't feel like a hotel. The price isn't fair for what you get. The shower had no door, and water ran into the room until we blocked it with towels. There was no smoke detector, just the wires where someone had taken it out. The door curtains were broken and a mess. The bed made a noise like something was broken whenever you sat on it. If a manager reads this, please check the bed. Not recommended.

One star is too generous. This isn't a hotel or even a B&B where you can reach someone if there's a problem. They only contact you to collect payment, then stop responding. I got a terrible room, and nobody answered when I called to complain. I requested a refund, but they ignored my emails and calls. I don't recommend it at all.

It felt private and peaceful, and everyone was kind. When we had a problem with our other hotel, they accommodated us right away. The place is sleek, somewhere between a hotel and an Airbnb. Its location made it easy to walk to loads of restaurants, cafes, bars, the beach, and convenience stores. I'd definitely stay again!

I spent a week in room 31 on the second floor. It was a good price, communication was good, the location was wonderful, the room was clean, the A/C worked well in the hot, humid weather, and the pool area and shared kitchen were nice. Internet worked too. The place operates more like a rental than a hotel, since there isn't a staffed reception and everything is handled by email or phone. About a week before arrival, I got the entry codes for the building and room lockbox. The location near the beach and other sites could work well for groups, but I wouldn't recommend it for a solo traveler. I wasn't entirely sure I felt safe alone, even though the property itself is secure, because the upstairs room doors felt flimsy. Noise was the biggest problem. The walls are extremely thin, so I could hear people in other rooms, in the pool, outside, cars, coquis, and construction. I bought earplugs, and it still became hard to sleep. The first night, a group of college-age kids had a pool party at 2:30 a.m. It was really loud and disruptive, especially after I arrived exhausted at 11 p.m. I could hear people coming and going and what was happening in their rooms. The water pressure in my room was awful. Some website photos show mini fridges, but there wasn't one in my room, only the shared kitchen. There's no extra cleaning or room service during the stay. You get what you get, and the room isn't cleaned until you leave. If noise bothers you, expect a lot of it. For a quieter stay, I'd suggest one of the outer rooms by the shared kitchen at the back. My experience at Mare wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either.
