SEVEN Almog

We left a day early. The place didn't look like the photos, and it seemed Selina had only recently taken it over, with everything still in poor repair. The sense of atmosphere and togetherness that Selina is meant to offer was missing. We slept in a “suite,” but it was just an old kibbutz room turned into a “nice” room. The restaurant was closed, and since we were practically in the middle of nowhere, finding somewhere good to eat was difficult. Keep in mind this used to be a kibbutz resort village, and the facilities reflect that. The pool belongs to the kibbutz and isn't near the room. There was no community feeling there.

The grounds are beautiful, and the people here are kind and tolerant. It's a lovely kibbutz to visit and connect with. The rooms aren't modern luxury hotel rooms, but if you're choosing to stay on a kibbutz, is that really what you're after?

We came on a school trip, and I really enjoyed our room. It had a little porch with a nice view, a sink, a bathroom with a toilet and bath, and a small TV. There were up to seven beds in one room, yes, seven! The lunchroom was very nice and the food was pretty good quality. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay while visiting the Dead Sea, I highly recommend it.

All the rooms open onto broad grassy areas, which are lovely and well kept. Selina's renovation, after it debuted in September 2022, seems to have been mostly interior touch-ups and design additions. The rooms themselves are still the ones built 30-40 years ago, and you can tell. Dinner in the kibbutz dining room cost us 120/80 NIS per adult/child for food that was below mediocre, and the standard breakfast was 65 NIS per person. The food felt overpriced, especially since there aren't really other options. Just to clarify, reviews here mix up Almog Hostel and Selina Almog. This one is about Selina.
