Parque de Campismo Orbitur Costa de Caparica

The reception staff were fine, but this campsite’s security person made us feel so unwelcome that we won’t be back, and neither will anyone we tell about it. We’ve camped all over Europe and Africa and have never been treated like this by a so-called security person or campsite overseer. Within ten minutes of arriving, he told us we couldn’t leave our van there. I said we hadn’t even put up our two tents yet and would move everything to the proper spots once we’d unloaded. Then he said nothing could be tied or placed on any trees. I thought they were protecting the trees, but walking around the site that night showed otherwise, as the photos below show. We’d attached our tent line to the rope marking our two pitches, and that was forbidden too. I finally told him to get lost and said I’d report it to reception at checkout the next day.

The toilets and shower cubicles are very small, though clean and tidy. Getting into Lisbon takes a bit of effort, but I’d still recommend this campsite. It’s easy to reach, handy for the beach, and there are plenty of local shops and other places nearby.

We got a nice pitch with the facilities we needed, and for two people with a camper it came to 25€. There’s a door inside the site giving beach access from 8 am to 8 pm, and reception stays open until 9:30 pm. We’d hesitated about staying at Orbitur Costa de Caparica because of the reviews, but I’m really glad we gave it a try. The bathrooms were clean, and there’s a shower, restaurant, supermarket, and game room on site.

The restaurant staff deserve a special mention. I didn’t try the food, so I can’t comment on its quality, but Joa Pedro and Joana were both so kind and helpful. They gave me some great recommendations for Lisboa. Thank you, you two are lovely! Everyone makes you feel extremely welcome here. It’s also a convenient, inexpensive way to get to Lisboa using the bus and ferry.
