The shared kitchen is spacious and impeccably kept, and the woman at reception was warm and easygoing when we checked in early. It’s close to the town centre and a church. The downsides: sharing a bathroom may make it feel pricey compared with a regular hotel, and the walls are so thin that noise from other rooms carries. The café terrace on the street can also be irritating, with drunk customers both day and night.

Even arriving late, we got through check-in quickly and were greeted by a really friendly receptionist. Casa de Hospedes Isaias was a welcome place to rest for two worn-out travellers. There’s also a bar very nearby if you need a quick bite or drink.

The price is low, but there are other equally cheap places on the island with much higher standards. This one feels run down, the beds are uncomfortable, and the AC doesn’t work, so it gets hot in summer. The walls are thin, and right beside the hostel locals gather to drink and get rowdy every night.

The host was always available, kind, and helpful, and the kitchen was well equipped. The rooms were clean too. With the city centre just five minutes away, this was a great choice for visiting Terceira.
