Casa da Rainha

After walking from Lisbon toward Fátima, Casa da Rainha in Azambuja was a welcome place to stop and catch my breath. The location was excellent, and the clean, quiet rooms had plenty of charm. Mrs. Inês Louro, the owner, greeted me warmly and paid attention to the details. The house has a cared-for, lived-in feel, with classic touches that bring together history and comfort. For a tired pilgrim, the peaceful atmosphere made this more than just a bed for the night. I'd recommend it to pilgrims and other travelers looking for a bit of warmth and calm.

Getting into the lovely room was easy, and the bed was very comfortable.

The location was a big plus. There are nearby places to park, an outdoor exercise area just 5 meters away, and a bakery, supermarket, and restaurant close by. For less than 40€, I thought the value was great, which is why I gave it five stars. At 50€, I might have rated it a four or three. I stayed one night on the way south. I got the room key and all the information without seeing any hosts, and that was straightforward. The bed was okay, with enough blankets for the temperature. The bathroom was small but did the job. The room could sleep three, but there was only one set of towels. I was alone and had a peaceful night, though I imagine it could be noisy with a lot of guests. The sound insulation isn't good, as you'd expect in an old house. I woke in the middle of the night to a drunk couple outside, and might have been woken by noise around 7am if I hadn't gotten up early.

We arrived without a booking, hoping there'd be a room, and owner John was very helpful. He showed us to a beautiful room in a traditional house with a great story behind it. It's centrally located near shops, restaurants, a park, and the station. We also enjoyed breakfast in the sun on the rooftop terrace.
