The setting makes it easy to slow down and feel close to nature. The Vagar is thoughtfully fitted into the landscape, and the quiet, the light, the greenery, and the natural sounds gave us a rare feeling of shelter and peace. There are trails and paths right outside, so you can explore on foot without needing to drive. We were impressed by how special the place felt in both sunshine and rain. Sunny weather draws you outside to explore and take in the surroundings, while rain makes the retreat feel even cozier and more atmospheric. The architecture, comfort, and natural setting work beautifully together. The hosts and team were kind, attentive, and available without ever intruding. Our stay far exceeded what we expected and gave us exactly the serenity, isolation, and connection with nature we had hoped for. We left feeling restored and like we’d experienced something authentic. Highly recommended for anyone who values quiet, nature, and meaningful experiences.
We found The Vagar while exploring around the Serra de Estrela mountains, and it ended up being one of the best places we’ve stayed. My husband and I had an A-frame lodging high up on the mountain, and it was incredibly peaceful. We relaxed by the fire in the wood burning stove and soaked in the hot tub with amazing views. The property is fabulous too, with an infinity pool and even a small chapel. We’ll definitely return and make use of everything they offer.
The people running this place were very friendly, and the service was great. Breakfast was very good too. A few huts sit in what feels like a country paradise, well away from the motorway, with birds and cicadas singing. We stayed in the main house, where you can hear a nearby motorway murmur, but it was tolerable, especially after a long hike in the nearby mountains.
Our room, Esperanza, was spectacular, and we had friendly staff, a fireplace, and walks to enjoy. The weather was rainy, but we still managed some lovely walks. The pool was closed because the weather was so unpleasant, though access to the mountains was excellent. Thank you, Marco, Karine and Peanut Butter 😊😊
We’ll definitely come back in another season, and see Boneca again ;). The extensive grounds, jacuzzi, and pool were incredible. The rooms were beautiful and cozy, and the staff were amazing. Breakfast, tea time, and the snacks were delicious. An absolutely amazing place.
