Hotel João XXI

I had a terrible stay. There’s no lunch or dinner, and breakfast is awful and the same every day. The rooms are narrow and dirty, and the bathroom is tiny. The door doesn’t lock, the squat rack is beside it, and the shower door won’t close. Cleaning wasn’t done properly either. My pillows and blankets weren’t changed for a week. Half the TV remote buttons don’t work, and to get the air conditioner turned on I had to go down to the ground floor and ask reception. Lately they haven’t even been turning it on. I recommend not staying here.

For one night, all I wanted was a clean room and a comfortable bed, and this hotel was just right for that. If you’re looking for anything beyond those basics, you may want to sleep somewhere else.

We stayed here with Erasmus students, and the price was great. The location is good, about a five-minute walk from the city center. The rooms are clean and have an interesting color scheme, and the reception staff are very friendly. Breakfast is the same every day, though. We recommend staying here.

I arranged a triple room reservation with one of the employees, but when I arrived there was no booking. They wanted me to take two rooms instead and pay twice what I was meant to, because they’d booked the room that was supposed to be mine. I’d give zero stars if I could, but one is the lowest.
