The staff were all excellent, though I was surprised that breakfast's second cup of coffee cost extra. From the clubhouse terrace, the elevated spot gives you panoramic views. We played two of the nine-hole courses. The contours between tee and green are used well; the fairways need preferred lies, while the greens are good. The Village accommodation is about 1 km from reception, where breakfast is served too. The properties are practical, but could use some TLC. For example, the fridge door is off balance and swings open by itself. The front door also doesn't latch on the first try, so it could be left open unless you're vigilant and persistent.

Some par 4s are under 300 yards, and a few fairways are tight. It seems to be two nine-hole courses. The course is quite nice, though hilly, and there's a long walk from greens to the next tees, so renting a buggy is a good idea.

Billy on the buggy bar was so lovely, and we got baguettes and cold beer from him. Both the Guadiana and grouse courses were challenging and well maintained. We came for the day from AP cabanas rather than staying at the resort. Breakfast was a lovely start, and it was a fantastic day all round. We'll be back next year, 5/5.

There's a mix-and-match choice of three nine-hole golf courses, with scenic views and friendly staff. The food was good too. We didn't stay in the accommodation, though it looked good quality. The resort is near the Spanish border and close to miles of excellent beaches.

The staff and people were really friendly, and we had a fantastic week at Castro Marim. The golf courses were perfect.
