Despertar Saudade

The breakfast selection was great, and the rooms looked nice, but we had a broken door and not much hot water in the shower. There’s a club next door that played loud music late into the night, and people from the club were hanging around and blocking the entrance when we left at about 10 in the morning. We realize the owners probably can’t control the noise, but people should know about it. Without that, it might have been a more restful stay.

I’ve stayed in very few guesthouses this wonderful. It was clean and service-minded, with the charm of an old Portuguese town house alongside modern, functional equipment in both private and shared spaces. Muito obrigada Crizna & Ricardo

The shared kitchen was full of snacks, fruit, tea and coffee, and breakfast was available from 6 a.m. The self check-in worked smoothly, though someone also welcomed me at reception. I even got lucky and had two cats visit the garden 😊 It’s a cozy historic building in a great spot, about a 15-minute walk to Universidade de Coimbra, with bars and shops close by and an ATM right next door. My room was very clean, comfortable and had everything I needed.

My friend and I got two rooms here to try Coimbra’s nightlife, and the place turned out to be a warm, cozy surprise. The only drawback was carrying a 28 kg suitcase up to the third floor, but I got some exercise out of it. It looks completely anonymous from outside, then feels amazing once you’re in. And the night out? I haven’t had that much fun in ages. It had a happy, old-school kind of atmosphere, and I really enjoyed myself. Slept well too. Thanks, guys! Best, Anders
