I’m Portuguese, not a tourist, and this room was in awful shape. Mold covered the bathroom and walls, which seemed like a sign of neglect and poor upkeep. The bed’s peeling leather made it uncomfortable and unpleasant to look at, and the old wooden floor seemed damaged by humidity. The paint was stained and peeling too. Just a terrible stay. It urgently needs a complete renovation. Avoid it if cleanliness and comfort matter to you.

I picked this hostel because of the price and expected the worst from the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. It’s clean and has all the basics, including a little work and reading nook that hardly seemed used. The neighborhood is lively, with loud music, though the location isn’t especially central. I was there on a cool night, so I can’t comment on the air-conditioning complaints. Having the dorms and bathrooms on separate floors is inconvenient, and there really should be more power sockets. I especially enjoyed meeting Pedro at reception.

I found bed bugs in the bed. It was disgusting, and I had to switch rooms in the middle of the night. The staff member’s response was, “These things happen, it’s normal.”

The location is lively and great, and the host was friendly. The rooms and kitchen were clean and modern. We paid a one-time 10 € fee for our dog. I really can’t see why the ratings are so bad.
