We liked the sound of the property, and communication was pleasant right up until our planned visit. Then, only three days before our family weekend, they told us they couldn't host us because of overbooking. We appreciate being told in advance, but by then we'd already arranged our travel, so it was disappointing and inconvenient. If the chance of a last-minute cancellation worries you, I'd avoid considering this place.
The main problem for me was the dogs roaming around. I'm a dog owner and know how to behave around them. There were three small dogs and JACK, a Bernese mountain dog of around 50 kilos. They were all friendly when I arrived, though they barked, especially in the morning. Two days later, I came back from a wedding briefly and JACK barked and bared his teeth as I tried to get out of my car. I waited inside until he moved away, but when I got out about 10 minutes later and walked toward my room, he ran at me showing his teeth again. I returned to the car and called management. They said they'd contact the owner to put him in a fenced area. When I said this was dangerous and unacceptable, they blamed me for not figuring out from their website and policy that dogs roamed there. The website was useless and had no dog pictures. Booking.com shows it's pet friendly, but I don't think guests should have to infer from that that the owners' dogs roam freely. The owner said JACK had the right to roam because it was his home. I had to move to another hotel and missed most of the wedding, with no refund for the remaining 2 nights. I found the management's service unacceptable and the situation dangerous. Imagine if this happened to a small child. There were other issues too. This isn't a hotel, something I only learned after prepaying a non-refundable fee. There's no reception, and they respond on WhatsApp from 8am-8pm. You won't see anyone from the "hotel" on the property. The key is left in a lockbox when you arrive. The bathroom had a terrible sewer smell that spread through the room and was hard to get rid of. Check other reviews on Booking. The Wi-Fi didn't work either, as other Booking reviews mention. There's no breakfast, and there are no supposed "partners" who can arrange it, despite photos advertising breakfast trays in the room.
The hostess was very helpful and always seemed to think about her guests' comfort. Inside, the place is simple but tastefully decorated, with two spacious bedrooms, two toilets, fresh towels, a functional kitchen, dining area, and separate living room. Everything was sparkling clean, and we had more space than we needed. The property is still developing and sits in Colares between the historic sites of Sintra and the beach area of Cascais, with the no.403 bus connecting them conveniently. One set of gate keys for residents would be a welcome improvement. Overall, highly recommended.

We had a wonderful weekend at Quinta da Pedra celebrating my husband's birthday with 12 friends. The whole team made everything fantastic, from the warm welcome and excellent accommodation to the delicious, generous breakfast and attentive staff. My husband's 60th will stay unforgettable thanks to you. We can't wait to come back! The Quinta is well placed for visiting Sintra, the beautiful beaches, and Lisbon. I can only recommend a stay here. Nothing to complain about! ❤️❤️❤️
