The biggest issue was how the booking left out the owners' rules and conditions until we arrived, especially awkward since the place is so remote. Inside, there were no sheets, just heavy, dirty blankets, and the kitchen utensils were rusty. The old furniture was worn, and there were no curtains, so people could look in and the sun woke us early. Beside the houses, which seemed close to falling apart, there was a foul-smelling chicken coop. The hygiene was really bad, and I hope someone checks it. A terrible experience and a real scam. Never again. Shame on you.

Dinner had to be booked 24 hours ahead and was served at 5 pm from a scruffy caravan next door. That option was overpriced too. The village is remote, but the accommodation is in a superb location. The cottage itself felt cluttered and tired, and cost too much. I wouldn't recommend it.

We refused to stay and asked Booking for a refund after paying in advance, since the photos had given a misleading impression. The house was dirty and covered in mold, with outdated, broken appliances, no bed sheets, rusty kitchen equipment, spider webs, and unsafe electrical sockets. The owners don't even speak Portuguese and say they're deaf, while their phone was always unavailable. Horrible, with no hygiene or sense of safety.

We were welcomed warmly by our hosts with fresh vegetables from their garden, bread they'd just baked, and homemade jam. The old stone exterior gives way to a modern, incredibly cozy house inside. We could just unwind, take in the island's lovely scenery, and enjoy our holiday. Two thumbs up and five stars! :-)
