It felt like visiting an old friend, with a calm, relaxing atmosphere. This family-run guesthouse offers bed and breakfast, and the hostess made eggs to order, fresh fruit salad and pastries or pie each morning. I stayed at Vila Teresinha for a week exactly one year ago, looking for somewhere low cost since I planned to spend all my days outdoors. It exceeded my expectations, and I’m sure I’ll stay again when I return. The rooms aren’t very modern, but they were spotlessly clean and serviced daily, and the bed was very comfortable. Rooms at the back are quieter and cooler at night, without direct sun during the day. If your room faces the ocean, you may hear traffic from cars going uphill right outside the front door. Soundproofing isn’t great, though the other guests were considerate and friendly. There’s a nice terrace overlooking central Funchal where you can sit with a cold drink in the evening. No bar in the building, but guests can store provisions in a shared fridge. It was a complete change from the huge, identical hotels I have to stay in for work.

The rooms and outdoor shared areas are spotless and inviting, and the rooms have a lovely, traditional feel. The hosts are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Each morning there was an amazing breakfast, including a traditional baked treat. Great location too. Highly recommend this place when visiting Maderia!

We enjoyed breakfast on the beautiful terrace, with a wonderful sunrise, and the woman baked a different cake each day. The two hosts were very nice and respectful, and the hotel itself was cozy and pleasant. The room was clean and cleaned every day. It wasn’t big, but it had a window. There are lots of plants on the terrace, which make the place feel even cozier. I’d definitely recommend it for a week’s stay.

The hosts were both very sweet, and our room was lovely and clean, with daily cleaning throughout our stay. We spent lots of time relaxing on the beautiful terrace and eating dinner there. Breakfast was one of the things we were most looking forward to because of all the comments praising it, and it didn’t disappoint. There was everything from warm bread to fruit salad to a dessert. One of the best guest houses we’ve been to, and for the price we paid, I couldn’t imagine a better stay in Funchal. Obrigado!
