We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, and ate in the hotel restaurant one evening too. The food and wine were good, and it wasn’t too expensive. The bar area is relaxing, and we used the free drinks voucher for a beer, house wine, or soft drink in exchange for declining room service that day. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful, and I’d happily stay again. The location is one of Tivoli Lagos’s best features, right in the town centre with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, plus an easy walk to the marina and its eateries. I’d been apprehensive because of some poor reviews, but my husband and I had a very relaxing stay. The hotel is unusual, with different blocks and rooms apparently added over the years, so some parts could use maintenance. We were lucky to get an upgrade to a deluxe room with a bedroom and a second room with a sofa bed. Both were modern and clean, with more storage than I’ve found in most hotels. The bathroom was large, with a very good shower, though more shelf space for toiletries would help. The balcony had cracked tiles and looked worn. It was mid-February, cold and windy, so we didn’t sit outside.

The staff were great, and breakfast was sumptuous. Go before 0800 if you want to beat the golf crowd. The hotel has a pool and sun loungers, and I’d return, though not in high season. It’s an old hotel that could use some TLC. The room was adequate, with a small balcony and a rather noisy aircon unit. Rooms can be small, and the place is like a rabbit warren, built into a hillside. Make sure someone shows you to your room after check-in or you could waste time finding it. Our room was a good five minutes from reception, via a lift and a very long corridor. There’s a first-floor bar with a big projection screen that gets plenty of use for sports in the evenings. The hotel also has a restaurant, but with so many nearby places to eat, we didn’t try it. There’s an Irish pub and an Indian restaurant within walking distance, though local Portuguese food is plentiful. I was there in November, and it was wet. The hotel didn’t offer any extra drying facilities for walkers or golfers, which felt like a missed opportunity. They only had their regular laundry service for clothes, with nothing for walking boots or shoes.

The breakfast was amazing, with loads of choices and everything tasting delicious. Staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and the poolside bar had good prices and a great cocktail selection. The outdoor pool area is gorgeous, and there’s a huge free car park as well as a paid underground one a short walk away. The hotel shows its age a little, but it feels cosy, and our room was lovely and clean. I’d been concerned by some recent negative reviews when booking, but we had a brilliant time. This deserves more than its current 4.0 rating. 10/10, can’t wait to come back. Thank you 🙏

The location is ideal, close to the marina, bars and restaurants, and just a short walk from the old town. We had a very nice five-night stay and I’d definitely go again. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and we were delighted to get breakfast at 7am on our last day, with a 7.30am pickup. It was my first visit, though friends had stayed before, so the negative reviews didn’t put me off. We had a standard excell room on the fourth floor, perhaps because my friend had stayed before and had another booking. It overlooked the rooftops towards the marina. The room was fine, clean and serviced daily, with a nice bathroom and bath, air conditioning, complimentary water, a mini bar, good wardrobe space, and a private balcony. Superior rooms have hot drink facilities. Breakfast was excellent, though the hot food could’ve been hotter. The Bucks fizz was a nice touch. The pool was good but very chilly, and there was a sunbathing area with towels provided. I can see why rooms at the front might be noisy, since groups of golfers stay here, and the hotel is popular with Americans, who can be noisy too.

The staff are why people return year after year. Everyone, from reception and food service to housekeeping and the bartenders, is polite, helpful, and friendly. They treat you like family. The bar may be the best in Lagos, with experienced bartenders and a big drinks selection. It’s my favourite spot. My room is comfortable, with a great view and a shower to die for. I’ve spent many wonderful weeks at Tivoli and look forward to going back soon. The hotel is aged and needs upgrades, but its classic Moorish design features are a delight. Room rates are favourable, at least in the off season, and make the smaller maintenance issues easier to accept. The breakfast buffet has plenty of options for all tastes, but the quality is lacking. I can’t recommend the dinner buffet or Italian restaurant. Maintenance could be better, though it isn’t a major downside. A personal annoyance is the repetitive loop of holiday music in the bar, and the TV is ancient and needs replacing. Still, Tivoli Lagos is a great base for visiting the Algarve, and you’ll be very happy with the choice.
