A Better Place by Lisbon II

The neighborhood was so-so, but the stay itself was excellent. There were several very clean bathrooms with showers, so we never had to wait. They had coffee and tea, and even kept milk in the fridge for my wife's tea. Little touches like that make a real difference.

I did miss having a window in my room. There was a fan, but I really wanted some fresh air. Otherwise, this clean guesthouse had what we needed: a small kitchen for cooking and eating, three shared bathrooms, and clean towels. The other guests were kind and respectful, and Pedro welcomed us warmly and explained things clearly. I think you get good value here, especially for a budget trip.

The apartment could use updates, including the furniture, and the shared bathrooms could have been cleaner. I also wasn't comfortable with the bathroom floor mat and hand towel being shared. My room had bunk beds, and the one I slept in on the lower level was squeaky and not very comfortable. It may be decent value if you're travelling on a budget, but I'd pick somewhere else next time. Pedro was very nice, polite, and helpful, and he showed me around, explained the door code, key, facilities, nearby shops, and places to eat. I stayed two nights, October 7-9. This felt more like a flat with guest rooms than a guesthouse, with seven rooms sharing three showers, plus a small kitchenette with shared food and kitchenware like cups and plates. A larger sign would help people find it. I got a WhatsApp asking when I'd arrive, which was useful. I called to say I'd be there after 9 pm, then got another message saying I needed to download an app to check in and use the door code, and to call for help if there was a problem. I couldn't download the app. When I arrived, I phoned for the code but couldn't find where to enter it. I called again, and Pedro came to greet me in about five minutes, helped me open the building's front door, and showed me to the apartment.

It's a really nice guesthouse for a reasonable price, and it had everything I needed. Everything was clean and pleasant. The centre is a bit of a walk, around 20-30 minutes, though the subway is very close.
