Alfama Right Point

The apartment was really clean and cozy, with everything we needed and more. There was no air-conditioning, and some nights were rough because it was so hot, but the fan worked pretty well. Our host was very friendly and helpful, including arranging taxis for our early morning flight. We enjoyed our stay!

The ocean view is just around the corner, and local restaurants, the train station, and the coast are all a few minutes’ walk away. We stayed in The Lovely House unit, which is perfect for couples. It’s newly renovated with a simple design, spotless, and has everything you need. Just be aware it’s an old building with a narrow staircase, so getting big luggage up to the higher floors will be difficult.

People threw rocks at our window and broke it. They came back three times over two nights, and we had to leave because we feared for our safety at night. We filed a police report. The room was uninhabitable, with broken glass everywhere and a broken window, but the owner, who lived in Dubai, refused to refund us. Since we were still paying, we came back during the day, when we thought it was safe, to use the Wi-Fi and restroom, but they wouldn’t let us into the room. It was horrendous. We felt the owners in Dubai treated us unfairly and took our money even though we weren’t staying there. The area felt dangerous and was very hard to reach with luggage. The stairs were incredibly steep and narrow, with no lift. Mostly, the danger and how unfairly we were treated completely ruined our trip. The place has been fully refurbished and is completely new. The neighborhood looks much better in person than it does on StreetView, and it’s a great place to stay. Getting there is tricky, though. It’s difficult by taxi, impossible with uber, and not easy on foot either. The doors don’t block sound well, and with seven other apartments in the flat, there are guests coming and going all the time.
