A good spot if you want to eat like a local. The staff are friendly, and prices are reasonable for such a fancy area as principe real. It still has a traditional Portuguese feel. The menu is humble and typical, nothing special, but it's not bad, and the Portuguese-style desserts and pastries are huge.
We ended up being the only foreigners in the place while we ate, which made it feel like a real local restaurant. We'd spotted the menu and prices in the window after leaving the Botanical Garden of Lisbon. The Portuguese dishes looked affordable, and the busy room made us want to try it. We had soup, a main course, and homemade wine. The portions were full, even though the presentation was simple. I ordered liver and was surprised to see olives on the plate, but it tasted really good. The food and wine were all delicious. A lovely place for local food, highly recommended.
I couldn't eat the pastel de nata crust because it was so rubbery, so I only had the custard. With such a wide selection, I expected better. I probably won't return, especially since fresh ones are available a few blocks away and the service there is friendlier.
We were walking around a new neighborhood looking for lunch, and the packed back room seemed promising when we peeked inside. It lived up to that first impression. We both had grilled fish with potatoes and vegetables, plus two half-liters of wine and two coffees. The bill was €26. It's a totally local spot, with no tourists around except us. We'd like to have lunch there again. Yummy.
