Bairrus Lisbon Apartments - Alfama II

The hotel was well placed for walking to lots of good restaurants and tourist spots. We got around by Uber, which was incredibly cheap. The staff were excellent, too. We had a suite with a huge, excellent bed and bathroom, and plenty of hot water. The decor and lighting could be better. The apartment kitchen was well furnished, which would be useful if you were on a budget.

The room design was awful, especially in 307. There wasn’t enough headroom on one side of the bed, and there were scuff marks where people had hit their heads. I nearly knocked myself out one night. The sharp ceiling edges where they meet the bed really need padding. The location is excellent, right in central Alfama, with Copenhague Coffee Lab next door for a delicious breakfast. The room had working A/C, and the cleaners did a good job. But the place is run down and has no lift. You have to leave a €5 deposit for an extra keycard, and breakfast must be booked the day before if you want it. I haven’t come across either of those requirements before. Reception staff ranged from seeming uninterested to somewhat friendly. The in-room fridge hummed but didn’t cool anything. It was warmer inside than the room. This place is memorable for all the wrong reasons despite its location, and at best it should be a 2 star establishment. (22/06/2025)

We stayed in the Superior Apartment, 2 Bedrooms in June, and it was amazing. It was huge, modern, and clean, in the old part of Alfama. There were tiny winding suites, trollies flying by, and it was a 9 minute walk to St George Castle. The apartment worked like a dream for parents with two teens, and two couples could stay there easily. It looked like there was room for extra kids in the living room, though I don’t think they allow that. Staff were there 24/7, but a little way down the street. The apartment is down some wide steps and there’s no elevator, so it won’t suit people with mobility issues.

The room was clean and roomy, with a little fridge, and the staff gave us a map and helpful information. We stayed in an attic suite on the top floor, though, and had to watch our heads near the fridge area. Tall guests might find it awkward. The location is handy in the center of Alfama, with tram 28 passing right outside and a bus stop close by. Copenhagen Coffee Lab is next door for breakfast and coffee.
