We spent four nights here. Right when we arrived, a gentleman met us outside, took our bags to the room, and let us go park the car. The staff were always pleasant and had suggestions whenever we asked. It’s a charming old building, and the elevator is a nice bonus. The location is ideal for seeing Lisbon, with plenty of restaurants, shops, metro access, and sights nearby.

The location was fantastic, but this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. The air conditioning, which was listed as an amenity, didn’t work for half my stay. The room became unbearably hot at night and I couldn’t sleep. I reported it to reception immediately, but they took three days to fix it, leaving me exhausted and unable to enjoy my holiday. There was also a big gap under the door, so corridor light shone straight onto the bed all night. I reported that too, but it was never fixed. Staff seemed to know about these problems, so I don’t understand why they didn’t tell me before I arrived or deal with them in advance. Reception was hard to reach and didn’t keep to its advertised hours of 0800:2200. I never saw anyone there after 18:30. Despite all this, nobody offered another room, compensation, or even a basic apology. They also refused my request for a partial refund without explaining why. The room itself was in poor shape. The air conditioner filter was extremely dirty and clearly hadn’t been cleaned for a long time. I had to ask twice before reception got it cleaned. There was a strange device above the door, covered with a black bin bag and duct tape. I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t what I’d expect in a 4-star hotel. Even the fire safety information was mounted at a 90 degree angle, making it needlessly hard to read. It didn’t seem like guest safety was a priority. This was such a bad experience that it prompted me to write my first Google Maps review, in the hope another guest wouldn’t have to go through the same service. It’s a shame to see Lisbon’s wonderful reputation tarnished by this hotel.

The hosts were friendly and quick to respond, and everything was clean. The beds were comfortable too. I loved the apartment and its little kitchen: small fridge, sink, pots, electric kettle, dishes and utensils for two, plus an induction cooktop. We couldn’t work out how to use the cooktop and forgot to ask for help. We’d stay again!

We had a great five-night stay at Boutique Chiado and would highly recommend it. The room was clean and had the essentials, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is right in a hotspot of Lisbon.

The location was nice, check-in and check-out were easy, and the staff were friendly. The building has historic charm, bright studios, and large full-length windows that did a good job of keeping street noise out when closed. I also appreciated the elevator. I stayed in a studio at Boutique Chiado in October. There were several problems inside the room. We found a coffee ring on the kitchen counter and fresh-looking brown stains on the carpet. Staff didn’t seem concerned about the stains and made no effort to replace the carpet or clean them. Sound between apartments was poor: the room shook when the people above walked, rattling the chandelier, and we could hear them in bed at 1 in the morning. The bedroom AC vibrated enough to make sleep difficult, despite the hotel advertising “silent AC.” Our Wi-Fi was unstable and barely usable. I told the staff, but they said it worked fine on their end and didn’t follow up, so I had to buy a data plan. The shower tray was cheap plastic that flexed underfoot, the cheapest material I encountered during my Portugal stay. Most similar hotels had high-end bathrooms. The bathroom fan was very loud and tied to the light switch, so using the bathroom at night could disturb a companion. The mattress felt mushy and uncomfortable; near the end of the stay I noticed a topper had been placed over its pillowtop, which may explain it. The Nespresso machine kept crushing the pods and making them useless. I’d never had that happen with any of the Nespresso machines I’ve used over the years.
