Browns Avenue Hotel

The restaurant was a highlight: dinner was spectacular, and Gabriel, our waiter, was professional, attentive, and friendly. The hotel is charming, conveniently located, and our cozy, nicely decorated room was comfortable. Most of the staff were welcoming, especially the restaurant team. After our first night, some basic items hadn't been replaced and a wet towel was left in the room. Also, there isn't a proper covered way between the restaurant and the main building. In the rain, no one offered us an umbrella or helped with the door on the way to breakfast or dinner. That small bit of help would have made a difference for a five-star hotel.

The restaurant was the best part of my stay. Breakfast, both the buffet and menu options, and steak dinner were all 5/5, with excellent service. The hotel itself is chic and modern, with high-end amenities. The lobby has lovely design and plenty of comfortable seats, and the separate library is stylish and cozy. My room was comfortable and well equipped, and the staff were consistently warm and positive. The location made it easy to walk to Alfama and other central neighborhoods, while anywhere farther was a quick Bolt ride away. I'd happily stay here again.

We had suite 606, the only guest room on its floor, and it was wonderfully quiet. We barely heard anything outside either, despite being just a block from one of Lisbon's busiest streets. We left the sliding door open all three nights. The location was handy for shops and restaurants, and the breakfast buffet was simple but delicious, with a short à la carte menu. Service was prompt, cheerful, and helpful. The duvet cover had such a strong perfume smell that it gave me a headache. The front desk explained housekeeping sprays scent on it and brought me an unscented replacement, which fixed it. I also found the bed and pillows firmer than I like, so I tossed and turned, though that may suit someone who prefers a firm bed. We had a rental car and used valet parking for $40 overnight. The pool deck was tiny, and it was too cold to use when we were there, but it might be nice to sit on in summer.

We had two enjoyable nights here with friends after a cruise. The hotel has a luxurious feel, quality fittings, and knowledgeable, well trained staff. Our deluxe room was spacious, including the bathroom, and had a good coffee machine and nice toiletries. The bed was especially comfortable, I'd love to know what mattress it was. Breakfast was excellent, buffet or à la carte, and ran until 11. The hotel is handy for designer shopping and a short walk from the rest of the city. I did think Browns Central was a slightly better location, where we stayed for one night before the cruise. I'd recommend either hotel. Thanks for making our Lisbon stay special.
