Casa Balthazar

The hotel and rooms were spotless, and we loved being able to use the spa for free. It’s a comfortable place with a cozy feel and a great base for exploring the city on foot. Highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway!

We stayed in the Jacuzzi 1 room, and the city view was wonderful. The staff were so nice, and we enjoyed the breakfast, the cake left out each day, the indoor spa, and the quiet atmosphere. Casa Balthazar’s location worked well for us too. Thanks to everyone for making our stay enjoyable.

We arrived after a delayed flight, possibly past midnight, and the host still greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome. Our attic room looked out over Lisbon, which was lovely. The place has an antique feel in its building and decor, with modern conveniences in the facilities. Breakfast was delicious, especially the custard tart and orange juice. There was chilled water and other drinks in the shared area all day, and guests could use the private spa. Being among local residents gave it a bit of a local feel. The buildings are close enough that you might even end up greeting a neighbor on their balcony through the window.

Casa Balthazar made a wedding weekend feel especially welcoming. We booked about half the roughly 20 rooms and were allowed to hold a small Haldi ceremony by the pool, with catering provided. Ruth, Yuran, Maria and the rest of the team went out of their way to make it lovely. They also helped us plan rooms without stairs for our elderly parents and looked after their needs during the stay. The hotel is tucked along a narrow street in Chiado, but the staff can arrange private transfers that bring you right to the entrance, which helps with airport trips. Ubers only dropped us at the street end by the intersection at Calçada do Carmo. The rooms were roomy and cozy, with views of Lisbon, and there’s a spa and pool too. Breakfast was included and incredible. It’s a small place where the hospitality feels personal, and the stay was far beyond what we expected. We can’t wait to return.
