The owners were kind and shared plenty of useful information, and they were flexible about our schedule. The apartment is compact but has what you need. Its windows don't have seals, so it may not be the best choice in winter, and there’s no elevator, which makes access difficult for people with disabilities. The location is a real plus, just a few steps from Santa Giusta train station. The neighborhood is worth exploring, as is San Giorgio Castle.
Chatting with the neighbors gave us a helpful glimpse of local customs and a bit of Portuguese. That made this feel very different from a hotel stay, and I’d definitely recommend trying it. We booked an apartment through Airbnb in the middle of Lisbon's Alfama district. The building looks old from the outside, but inside it’s renovated and has everything needed for a comfortable visit. Santa Apolónia train station is only steps away, and the location makes it easy to enjoy this traditional part of town while getting around on different kinds of public transport.
