Casa Senhora do Monte 92

The room view was the only real plus, and only if you happen to get a room with one. Breakfast was a complete letdown, with practically no food, so I went without it during my stay. For what they charge, I'd have been better off buying food in town. The hotel is very old, and although the location is good, it still feels overpriced even for that. Some of the staff were helpful, though. I booked through Booking.com and don't know where the 8-star rating came from. It wasn't worth it.

The lovely view is what you get for staying at the top of a very steep hill. The hotel still feels quite central, and tram 28 and tram 12 serve it, though the last one leaves at 21:30. My room was clean and good. I didn't try the breakfast.

When we arrived, they said a room was still available for us, but we couldn't stay at this hotel. We were told to take a cab, at our own expense, to another place 2 km away. I looked up the replacement and it seemed like a fleabag motel, with lots of one-star Google reviews. It was also €80 cheaper than what we were being charged. This looks like overbooking, with them sending overflow guests elsewhere while still charging the original room rate. Slimy, scummy behaviour. Do yourself a favour and book somewhere else.

Everything is really well cared for here, even though this isn't a new, family-run hotel. Pick a room with a view and you can enjoy the same sight as the Monte Senhora observation point throughout your stay. Even without that, you can see it during breakfast. A hidden gem in Lisboa.
