Grapes & Bites - Hostel and Wines

A must visit restaurant in Lisbon. The food and staff were brilliant, and the live music was exceptional. Rosie deserves a special mention. It was her first night as our waitress, and she did a great job.

The portions were a little smaller than I expected, but the prices are fair and the place feels really cosy. The waiters were super kind. Worth stopping by if you’re nearby, though I wouldn’t put it ahead of other plans.

The fish was okay, but the fries and coffee were among the worst we tried, and the paella was especially bad. I heard the restaurant has a new owner. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The place didn’t feel modern or romantic at all. There was a loud football game on TV, fake flowers on the tables, and tacky fake grape vines hanging from the ceiling. The wine was just so-so and the cheese plate was small. Service was frustrating too. The waitress seemed distracted, didn’t bring a drinks menu, and knew nothing about the wines, even though it’s supposed to be a wine bar. We were charged for a bottle when we’d only had a glass, and nobody offered to make up for the mistakes. The waiter also kept pushing water. I know it’s customary to charge for it in Europe, but as an American it’s just not my thing.
