A fantastic apartment in a great location, with a wonderful host!

A handy tip if you're buying groceries to cook: there are different-sized supermarkets uphill. Walk up without anything to carry, shop there, then head back down. Buying only a little at the bottom can leave you hauling heavy bags uphill. The host was really friendly and spoke excellent English, which made airport pickup and drop-off very convenient. The house is beside the yellow tram line but tucked into a side alley, so it stays quiet. It’s partway up a hill, with convenient access to any viewpoint.

The apartment is in a great spot, an easy walk from Place de la Comércial and other sights. It’s a lovely, clean two-story place, and we enjoyed having the Nespresso machine we’d seen in the website photo for our morning coffee. Our host was already wonderful before the trip even started. He picked us up at the airport, talked us through how to get around, and gave us city maps. There’s a restaurant with a green facade less than twenty meters away. We had appetizers, wine, coffee, cake, and bacalhau for the main course. It was delicious, and the whole meal came to less than 30 euros.

The apartment had everything we needed, and the man who handed over the keys was very helpful. He shared lots of information about the city and places to visit. The location may seem surprising at first, but it’s a welcoming old-town neighborhood and works well for getting around by public transport without a car.
