Palácio do Visconde

This was the Lisbon hideaway we’d hoped to find. It’s in a trendy neighborhood with record shops and oyster bars, a few minutes from downtown but tucked away from the bustle. Tram 28 stops outside the Palacio’s quiet, vine-covered garden. The staff are warm and welcoming. The rooms feel like another era, with stylish updates and modern comforts. There’s also an excellent restaurant, good coffee, and a carefully chosen soundtrack. A lovely spot if you want to get away from the world for a bit.

The staff were exceptional throughout, and the food and wine were excellent. The coffee was especially good, made with beans from their own roasters off site. Rooms blend period details with modern touches, as does the hotel overall, while keeping its heritage. It’s a lovely, upscale, quiet hotel in a peaceful neighborhood, yet still close to the center and public transport. The quality was clear from check-in. I’d definitely recommend it and stay again.

The staff at this boutique hotel were very friendly and helpful, and the price was reasonable. I was in Lisbon for an evening during a long layover at LIS, and the location was excellent for the parts of the city I wanted to explore. Breakfast was good, though it wasn’t quite my usual kind of breakfast. I imagine most people would enjoy it. A heads-up if you’re being picked up by a driver: be ready at the agreed time. The road is basically a busy alley, so stopping there holds up traffic and the tram. My room faced that alley, but I didn’t find it noisy.

The property is beautiful, but agreeing to change my booking was a big mistake. After I booked through Booking.com, they messaged me on WhatsApp and asked me to cancel there and book directly with them for a discount. We saved $200, but ended up with a worse room in the attic. More than that, it spoiled the mood at the start of our visit. I’d stick with booking through the intermediary so you can get what you want.
