Palácio SantAnna

That rooftop view over Lisbon is amazing, and the beds were comfortable in rooms that felt big enough. The architecture is unusually impressive for a hostel, with a fantastic interior. But the cockroaches in the shower were a major problem.

It’s a bit like a fancy hostel, since you have your own bedroom but share the facilities. The room was pretty, and having those shared spaces was useful. It’s on a quiet street, still within easy walking distance of a big square and the popular historic and tourist neighborhoods.

Slept really well in the great bed. The room had a nice city view, and the staff were friendly. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean too. A lovely place to stay!

The building has a lot of charm, and it’s affordable. I met some nice people, and the work room was useful, with great internet and a good place to get work done. I’d call this a youth hostel, even though it isn’t described that way. Having your own room may suit older travelers, but the bathrooms and kitchen are shared. The renovation feels very cheap against the building. The furniture doesn’t fit the place, and the thin industrial carpet on much of the floor reminded me of a hospital or institution. Plastic trunking for many of the outlets runs along the walls and looks out of place, so the whole thing can feel more institutional than palatial. The kitchen appliances are low quality, and sometimes there are dirty dishes in the sink. Ants kept showing up in the kitchen too.
