The traditional Lisbon neighborhood has its own charm, though whether you like the area is a matter of taste. The apartment, which is advertised as a 4-star ground-floor place, was awful. We found a large cockroach on the floor as soon as we walked in, along with a damp, filthy smell. Cables for the TV and router were scattered around, and a spotlight was hanging loose by its wire. The sofa bed was stained, and they provided no sheets, leaving one of three people without sheets or bath towels. The double bed had a grimy, ancient-looking mattress, and the springs dug into us. The kitchen and bathroom taps were so loose we had to hold them to turn them on. The shower was so low that someone 1.70 meters tall had to crouch, and there was barely room to turn without hitting a wall or the disgusting curtain. The supposed wood floor was cracked and chipped. When we called to ask for sheets at least, they kept making excuses and promising to come or fix things. Days passed, and nothing happened. I can’t believe this is allowed to operate as tourist accommodation.
