Severa Apartments

The nightly garbage collection right outside the door was a rough way to be woken up. After midnight, we could hear glass being crushed in the bins. And for what we paid, the apartment still felt like very poor value. Inside, there weren’t enough basics for four people: only three chairs and two cups, and not enough beds for four adults. The bathroom was filthy, the soap holder was broken and fell off the wall, the hairdryer didn’t work, and the washing machine was rusty and unusable. There was also an old, dirty, empty body gel dispenser that was too gross to touch. We were given a different apartment from the one we’d agreed to, and felt that we’d been lied to. The top bunk was reached by a ladder, which was very difficult for a 76-year-old woman. One of the owners or managers should try staying there with three other people for a weekend. Maybe then these things would get fixed quickly. This was by far the worst place we stayed in on our whole trip in Europe.

There was a moldy smell, and the bathroom floor felt soft and warped, with water underneath the fake wood. The exposed ceiling was made of OSB, a type of plywood that shouldn’t be used around water. The apartment was extremely cramped. I could feel every mattress spring in the very uncomfortable main bedroom bed, and the second bedroom had a shabby little bunk bed with no sheets. At least it was inexpensive.

Really nice apartments for the price. I’d definitely come back.

We were there over Christmas 2023, and the street noise was so loud, with music blaring, that sleeping was impossible. The photos show the upstairs apartment. There are no pictures of the ground-floor one, which was in very poor condition. If that’s where you’re put, you’re stuck with it. The bathroom was filthy, including the toilet brush. Damp had pushed up the floorboards so they caught on the door, and the old street-level front door let us hear everyone walking past. I’d definitely avoid it. It felt like a money-making operation with no empathy for guests.
