Sitio dos Cavaleiros Apartments

The neighborhood has a lot of garbage, and there are homeless people sleeping on the streets and doing drugs. It didn't feel dangerous, though, and we felt safe. The apartment is in the city center, close to everything. The rooms are tiny but manageable. Staff were super friendly and gave us lots of recommendations about where to go and eat. The apartment was sparkling clean, the bathroom and kitchen were very modern, and the WiFi was super fast.

The apartment was very nice and clean, and the staff were friendly. Just keep in mind that the small reception isn't staffed all the time, as they tell you in advance. It's very central for the old part of Lisbon, though the area can feel a little rough around the edges. I'd recommend it.

The downtown location was great, with a handy off licence and health shop on the road. Some people may not find that road very desirable, though. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The apartment was amazing: clean, modern, air-conditioned, with comfy beds, a good kitchen, and double glazing. With the windows and shutters closed, you really couldn't hear road or tram noise. It was cleaned every day, which was lovely.

Our stay was deeply frustrating, and the construction noise nearby made it worse. The Airbnb was on the outskirts of Alfama, and the building next door was being renovated. Nobody had told us about that. Every day from 8 am to 4 pm, there was loud jackhammering. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere well organized or professional. The first problem came on check-in day. At 4 pm, we got an email saying we'd be charged 40 Euro if we checked in after 10 pm, and that checking in after 2 am was impossible. We should have been told this before the cancellation period ended. They'd asked for our flight details a week earlier, so they knew we would arrive at 10 pm, but didn't mention any fee. On our second night, a family with two babies moved into the room next door. One baby cried at 10 pm, again at 4 am and woke us, then again at 8 am and woke us again. I emailed several times during the night and sent a WhatsApp, but got no reply. In the morning I called, and the owner, Farah, said there was no crying baby and that nobody had ever complained about babies crying before. That didn't mean it wasn't happening that night, and she couldn't tell me I hadn't heard it just because she hadn't. She kept interrupting and saying I'd imagined it. When I said I had video recordings, she called me a liar. I sent the recordings over WhatsApp. They showed her headboard, distinctive linens, and timestamps of 10 pm and 4 am. Only then did she change her story. She said she knew the family had moved in that day and had already asked them the night before to keep the noise down. That seemed odd, since minutes earlier she'd called me a liar before seeing the video. She admitted it only after hearing the baby cry in the video, which clearly showed her apartment. I asked Farah to move us to another room once she'd acknowledged the crying baby on the other side of our wall. She said there was no availability. I checked online and saw three rooms listed for that night. Our room hadn't been cleaned yet, so a move would have been easy. I pointed that out, but after reading my WhatsApps she ignored me. Agoda confirmed everything by email, yet Farah still refused to help. That evening, after giving her time to sort it out with Agoda, I messaged again about changing rooms. She read it and didn't respond. A host who doesn't care about guests' comfort is the worst kind, and Farah not only didn't care, she went out of her way to make sure we weren't helped. On the phone, Farah offered to let us check out at 10 am and refund our last night. We would normally have accepted, but didn't want to leave at 10 am and wait until 3 pm to check into another hotel, disrupting our last day and scheduled tours. She said if we stayed, she wouldn't help with any problems, and 'strongly suggested' we check out. That evening we found bugs in the bathroom and sent a WhatsApp video asking for bug spray. She read the messages and ignored them. I've never dealt with a more horrendous and vindictive hotel owner.
