Train Lisbon Hostel

The staff were lovely, and the hostel was cheap, but I still wish we’d paid twice as much to stay somewhere else. The bathrooms were quite dirty, and with so many people sharing one, we were always waiting in the mornings. I also found visible stains on my pillowcases. Other people sharing the spaces seemed very sick, coughing and sneezing constantly during the COVID pandemic. I know that wasn’t the hostel’s fault, but it made the stay uncomfortable.

Train Hostel is in a handy spot, away from the busiest part of town but still close enough, and I met some really nice backpackers there. The bed had a little curtain, which I liked. It was clean, the staff were incredibly friendly, and I had a great stay. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon.

The room was clean, but the bathrooms weren’t well maintained and there was no shower gel. I’d asked for a private room, but the only one available was a room with three single beds. After paying, I realized it wasn’t as private as I’d expected and tried to cancel right away. They refused to refund me, which seemed ridiculous since I’d been there for less than five minutes. Check the room before paying.

The location was good, very close to the Alfama area, but I wouldn’t choose this place again. The double room I booked was so small there wasn’t enough space for my luggage, and I found hair in the sheets, which didn’t seem particularly clean.
