Living Lisboa Baixa Apartments made it easy to get around the city thanks to their excellent location. The apartment needs some work, though, especially for comfort and general upkeep. A few updates could make it a fantastic place to stay.

The room was amazing, but the after-hours check-in was a complete nightmare. No staff were available to answer questions, and the payment machine wouldn't take our payment. We only got the room key because other guests happened to come in and show us where it might be. They need working equipment and staff, and an online payment option with a code for the building and room would make much more sense. Their check-in system is ridiculous.

Our apartment was right under the eaves, and the bedroom felt like a cave, with a tiny 5cm x 10cm window. There were long black hairs on the floor and in the shower, stained towels, and broken tiles in the kitchenette. The place was advertised as having a double bed, but it was two singles pushed together with single sheets, so the beds kept sliding apart. The furniture was cheap plastic, and we were given a much smaller, inferior apartment than the one we booked and paid for. When we showed reception our confirmation and the apartment photos, she said she couldn't help and claimed the pictures were old, showed previous furniture, and were only ‘indicative’ of the type of apartment we might get. That felt clearly deceptive. Management couldn't be found to discuss our concerns, and from the receptionist's rehearsed speech, this didn't seem to be the first time. We stayed in 10 hotels during our Portugal tour, and 9 were great. This one was abysmal. If you're unsure, check the reviews on other sites.

We arrived in Lisbon with nowhere to stay, which was a horrific way to begin a trip to a country we'd never visited. On the day we got there, we were told we'd been moved to two different hotels for the first and second nights, meaning we'd have to change places during our seven-night stay. We'd booked directly with Living Lisboa months earlier, and they made this last-minute change without asking us. At the replacement hotel, they couldn't find a reservation under our name. We waited over two hours to check in and had to pay extra for a room. Living Lisboa management wouldn't come to the phone and showed no remorse, blaming a "technical issue" even though they'd confirmed the reservation and said everything was in order. The next morning, we were told the price of our Living Lisboa apartment had more than doubled. This was forced on us without explanation, despite the problem being theirs, not ours. I wouldn't recommend Living Lisboa.

The room was roomy and nice, but whenever someone walked through the hotel, the whole bedroom shook. It honestly felt like living near a T-Rex, like Jurassic Park. Outside, it was very crowded, with people eating right by the hotel until around 12am, so noise could be an issue. For check-in and payment, there's a machine, but none of our credit or debit cards worked; it kept saying the password was wrong for some reason. The woman working that day helped by sending us a payment link, so be aware that can happen. If you can't handle noise or a T-Rex as a roommate, don't book here.
