VIP Executive Suites do Marques Hotel

The service was above average for the most part, and the team answered our questions and comments. Still, I didn't feel like a VIP here, apart from the doorman, who did a great job opening the door for us. We chose this area of the city on our first visit to Lisbon. The room wasn't what we'd expected from a four star hotel: no bathroom fans or kitchen, and the pull-out couch was a single bed, not a double. The window on the 8th floor opened outward from the bottom with no safety net or other features, and I assume the other floors are similar. Maybe their safety standards are different from what I'm used to. Cleaning was fine and the cleaner did a good job. The terrace was a nice touch, but the workout room wasn't worth having since the machines barely worked and need a full upgrade. I'd walk five minutes to a nearby gym for 10 euros instead. Breakfast was typical, but 18 euros is far too much. There are supermarkets, cafes and restaurants a two minute walk to either side.

We were a family of three and were happy with this clean, comfortable hotel, though it was a bit pricey. We stayed a week, and the big room and helpful staff at the 24 hour front desk were appreciated. A few room details: we got free coffee pods for the first day only; more can be bought at nearby supermarkets or from the hotel for a fee. The smart TV can connect to devices via HDMI only. It took us quite a while to figure out the fancy microwave. There were just two sets of kitchen utensils for three of us, so they should leave enough for the number of guests. A hot water kettle is available on request. Our departure flight meant leaving at 5AM. I had booked a Bolt for four people at 5:15AM for 10 euros, with our check-in size luggage. The driver arrived at 5:20AM but refused to take us, saying the luggage might damage his car, then marked us as “passenger no show.” Bolt charged me 7.7 euro. By then it was past 5:30AM. The hotel desk booked us a taxi that arrived five minutes later and took us to the airport for 13.8 euro, including the luggage charge. We complained to Bolt about the driver refusing the ride and marking us as a no show, and they fully refunded us. I'd skip those risky ride share apps and just call a taxi.

The hotel is new, with spacious rooms, and the convenient location makes it one I'd recommend. Breakfast was great and the food quality was good, though it was the same every day. The shower was small, and soundproofing needs work: I could hear everything from the room above and next door.

I'm picky and have stayed in lots of five star hotels, but this one exceeded my expectations. It's very family friendly, the staff are friendly, and the location is great, within walking distance of the Marques de Pombal. Highly recommended.
