Elsa is what makes this place special, especially for hikers. A native of Manteigas who adores her town, she knows the trails and all the lore that comes with knowing the area inside out, and she’s so enthusiastic about sharing it. It’s the quintessential mountain inn experience à la Português! SerraVale’s stone building is a wonderful place to stay in Manteigas. The rooms are clean and cozy, there’s plenty of hot water, and the included continental breakfast is ample and tasty.

The owner is so nice and helpful. Before we arrived, she turned on the AC so we could rest after our long trip. She also wrote down places to go and eat, and all of her tips were good. We had a great stay, especially enjoying the breakfast with local cheeses and fresh bread. I’m sure I’ll return for a longer visit in another season.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay! Elsa may be the best guide in Manteigas, and she’s always ready to share her love for Manteigas, the most beautiful place in the Serra da Estrela, and maybe in all of portugal?? ;-)
