What still shocks me is that we weren't refunded for the nights, despite what happened. The shower door shattered when my husband pulled it shut, leaving cuts all over him, including a deep one on his hand. He needed medical attention, but there were no doctors in Nazare that Saturday, and we had a flight to London later that day. I went to Hotel Oceanic reception three times for help. They couldn't even provide a first aid kit, and the supervisor they sent didn't know what to do. A local pharmacist was far more helpful. After seeing my photos, she said he needed hospital care, and kindly strapped Mark's hand so we could get home. He couldn't drive to Lisbon or help with our luggage. Two weeks later, doctors checked his hand again. The injury has affected his work as a freelance hairdresser and his golf. The room was so small we left our suitcase in the car. Hotel Oceano manages the accommodation and should have taken more responsibility. The pharmacist was shocked they couldn't offer basic first aid. An apology isn't enough after an experience like this. They should refund us and check all the shower doors, as well as provide a proper first aid kit. We travel constantly, and I wouldn't recommend either accommodation to anyone.

We could hear the waves rolling onto the beach at night, almost like a lullaby. Our room had a spectacular view, and the hotel sits right above a gelato shop, directly on Nazare beach. It's beautiful, and I highly recommend staying here. This beach also gets some of the world's best surfing waves.

The balcony was a great spot to step away from the busy Main Street, where there's always a lot going on. Nazare stays up late, so street noise carries, but I still slept really well. The room itself is simple, safe and clean, with everything you need if you're mostly out. Shower pressure was fabulous, and being right on the beach made it easy to come and go. Book it!

We only stayed one night in February, while travelling around Portugal, and the low price matched our expectation of a basic room. It was small, but very clean, with a beautiful view from the window. The location is central. There was no air conditioning, so I imagine it could get quite warm in summer.
