Quinta das Leiras- Rubiaes

Avoid this place! We were met with a cold, unwelcoming reception because we arrived after 6:30 p.m., despite the downpour and how tough this part of the pilgrimage is. The radiator wasn’t heating, so we were cold. Hot water took ages to come through in the shower, then it was scalding. All that for €66, plus another €5 just because there were two of us. This owner seems interested only in making money. AVOID!!!

We were walking the Camino Portuguese. The owners were away, but a neighbour checked us in. It was a lovely, comfortable house with good-sized rooms and a private bathroom. We could use the kitchen for dinner and breakfast, though no food was provided.

For just 8 euros a night, it’s a blissful place for pilgrims. There’s plenty of space and it’s clean, with front and back yards offering amazing mountain views. The kitchen is well equipped, and paper bed linens are provided. A cafe is right next door, and a slightly bigger shop is 1 km away.

Helmut, the owner of Quinta de Leiras, was fantastic. We messaged the night before about having our luggage dropped off, and he was more than accommodating. His instructions were clear, and he shared tips on where to get food and other things that proved extremely helpful on the Camino. When we arrived, he made sure we were comfortable, and we all felt this was one of the better places we stayed. He also called for transport to a restaurant, which was just okay. After we got back, he arranged transport for our bags. I highly recommend Quinta de Leiras.
