Quinta de Raj

Paul and Valeria made us feel welcome throughout our honeymoon stay, and their local recommendations were fantastic. My husband and I spent three days at Quinta De Raj and had an incredible time. The rooms and poolside outdoor space are just right for relaxing, and breakfast had everything we could want. If you're visiting the Douro Valley, make room for this place in your trip.

The rooms, pool area, and grounds are all beautifully kept, and the hotel feels brand new. I could have spent hours watching the mountain views change as the light shifted. Valeria and Paul are caring, attentive hosts, and you can see how much thought they’ve put into the details. Their concept inspired by the elements gives the place a distinctive spiritual feel. It’s a peaceful, inspiring retreat where I felt deeply recharged, and I can’t wait to return.

The peaceful setting in a charming hillside village among the vineyards made a lovely base for visiting the Douro region over three or four days in mid-September. Peso da Regua, with more going on, is only a ten-minute drive away. We came looking for somewhere central but quiet to recover after a busy, exhausting summer, and found an extremely comfortable retreat with just four luxurious rooms, run by a delightful, attentive couple. The view from the Quinta do Ram across the Douro valley to the little town of Peso da Regua is exceptional. You can enjoy it from the rooms, which all open onto a long, spacious balcony, as well as from the terrace, covered breakfast patio, infinity pool, sauna, and hot tub. It’s breathtaking and moving. The modern Quinta is built across four levels of terraces, with lovely wood, stone, and glass throughout. The simple surrounding landscape adds to the calm. The owners are gentle and caring, and look after your needs with a kind, discreet manner. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit and treats. After a tiring day, if you don’t feel like driving down to Peso to try one of the good restaurants they recommend, you can order a lovely deli plate with a very good glass of wine. We enjoyed it from the comfortable lounge chair outside our bedroom, watching sunset fade into dusk across the valley. Veronique and Jean, French American. September 2025
