Quinta Vale de Sousa - Douro Valley

We were three and stayed in the two-bedroom suite, which suited us well. The kitchen was set up well enough for us to make dinner on our second night. On the first night, the chef made us delicious pasta and rice with vegetables from the garden to fit our vegetarian diet. The grounds are lovely, and there’s a nearby walk up to the miradour. Everyone on staff was kind, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. We really enjoyed our time at this Quinta and would return.

The heated infinity pool and spa day were highlights, and Christiana arranged a delicious homemade picnic for a hike to a viewpoint. She also added lovely romantic touches for our honeymoon. She and Paula, the owner, made us feel like family and took care of anything we needed. The food was scrumptious, and their wines were incredible. Canelas is quiet and tucked away, about 20 minutes from Peso da Regua, where you can get gas. The grounds and facilities are beautiful, with recent renovations so fresh you can still smell the construction. The style mixes old Portuguese details with modern Belgian design. The friendly staff speak several languages, which made for a blissful visit.

If you like nature, the Quinta and its surroundings are a great place to stay. Outside, the garden and heated pool are striking; inside, the rooms and restaurant are thoughtfully designed. The Quinta has been restored in a lovely setting. We were also surprised by the young Chef’s dishes, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Service was great.

Dinner at the property was one of the best meals we had on our trip. My sister and I had a lovely stay, with friendly, helpful staff and a gorgeous space. Highly recommend!
