Hotel Solar De Monfalim

It's quite central in Evora, and the hotel has charm, but expect small rooms and dripping AC. Our first room's unit leaked so much that the floor flooded. We couldn't move until the next day, so we spent the night listening to the drip. They switched us to another room then, but its AC eventually began leaking too. Seems to be a regular thing here.

The air conditioner leaked all night, and we had to ask for a bucket. The constant plink-plink kept us awake. We asked to move rooms, but they said they couldn't, explaining it was very difficult to get a maintenance person in Evora. I stayed one night while visiting the nice city, and the historic building is charming, so we expected a good experience. Instead, the rooms are very old-fashioned and need refurbishment. The equipment felt like something from the 70s, and not up to a three-star hostel. There were only two outlets, for the TV and bedside light, and you had to move the bed to reach the latter.

Just bear in mind there's no elevator and quite a few steps to climb. We had a very nice continental breakfast, comfortable beds, and friendly staff who were happy to help. We really enjoyed the hotel's historic charm and would love to return on our next trip.

The staff were kind, the location was great, and we loved the romantic terrace. It was very clean, with spotless sheets and towels, though the rooms need renovation, especially the doors and walls. The building's older architecture was part of the appeal, and we weren't fussed by minor flaws in the interior. It suited the two of us well for a short stay. There aren't many outlets, so you have to unplug the TV or a bedside lamp to charge a phone or laptop. That didn't bother us, but it might annoy someone else. Some classical music at breakfast could add to the atmosphere. Five stars from us, and a big thank you!
