Staying in a monastery was reason enough to try this hostel, and it was clean, near the city center, and had accommodating staff. Breakfast was free, though pretty forgettable, and there’s no guest kitchen. I also got traveler's diarrhea while staying here, so be careful about drinking the tap water.

I liked how quiet it was and the guy at the counter was really friendly. The showers, though, were cold, breakfast was stale cornflakes and ham, and the place felt like a mortuary. There was none of the life or community that makes a hostel feel like a hostel. The worst part came after I left. They charged me 70 euros and messaged to say I’d stolen a comforter and a sheet. I was backpacking with a week’s worth of gear in one pack, and couldn’t have fit those in there. They didn’t even ask me first, just assumed. It was the only place available on the island, and now I can see why.

There are lots of other options, and this hostel didn’t feel worth the money or time. The rooms have poor ventilation and hardly any space for clothes. There’s one tiny closet, without hangers. Staff at reception weren’t helpful and came across as too in your face, rather than approachable or compassionate. The shared washrooms are co-ed, which is pretty normal in Europe, but they weren’t maintained well. You need to bring your own toilet paper and towels. Breakfast was just cornflakes, bread, and some fruit, and you can get a better one at any of the other cafes. If you’re still planning to stay, read my comments carefully and leave questions in the thread below.

The friendly, welcoming staff and the location next to the botanical garden were highlights. It’s also a short walk to a shopping center, and parking is available on the property right in front. The old building is charming and clean, with TV common areas, but remember this is a hostel: the rooms are basic, and the toilets and showers are shared by the whole floor. It isn’t wheelchair accessible. Breakfast is simple, with a bread roll, sliced cheese and ham, cereal, and machine coffee. The room and shower doors creak at night, and the mattresses aren’t very comfortable. They squeak when you move, which can disturb your sleep. It’s budget-friendly and well located, with friendly people, but comfort is basic and nights can be noisy. ★★★☆☆

The building is lovely, almost like staying in a monastery, and the park beside it is magical. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the center, and there’s a nice garden too. This was the cheapest option in town, though I think it could be 5-10€ cheaper. Dorm roommates are a matter of luck, but people are usually nice and considerate. Breakfast is included and fine for saving money, but very basic, and I wish the place had more of a social vibe. Bring your own locker lock.
