Hostel Azorazul Pool Suite

The location worked well for getting to the city centre. Check-in was no problem since everything was explained in the email. The rooms were quiet and very clean, and the beds and lockers were just right. The whole property is tidy and suits a one-night stop or a longer stay.

The hostel and staff were great. It felt like home to me, and I've stayed here a few times.

I stayed for seven nights in a mixed dorm at this small, cosy hostel. Breakfast each morning included a pistolet, cheese, ham, jam, cornflakes, fresh fruit and, of course, coffee. The staff member was very friendly and cleaned everything each morning. It’s a handy base for exploring the island, with almost everything within an hour’s drive. The busy centre of Ponta Delgada is about a 25-minute walk away, and there are small shops and a few restaurants nearby. Be ready for traffic noise from the street out front. There’s an even busier road behind the hostel, though it only affects the rooftop terrace, not the rooms. Bring earplugs and an eye mask if you’re a light sleeper.

The ocean view and upper terrace were lovely, and the pool was a nice extra. We booked the whole week because it’s well placed for exploring the island and going out for good dinners. Parking was easy, which mattered since I’d picked it for a late afternoon arrival. It was pretty quiet, with not much interaction at first, but we eventually formed a nice little group and met fun travellers to share our adventures with. The staff also offered useful tips, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was basic: bread rolls, cheese, ham, jam, cereal and some coffee. For what we paid, I wasn’t expecting much more. Laundry at 15€ felt quite expensive, though. Four stars, as there’s still room for improvement.
