Quinta da Saudade

We were both really happy with our stay. It's a lovely escape from the city and its busy schedule, with beautiful views and plenty to do around the farm. We went for five days in early October and had some rain. In two rooms, water came in around the windows, and the kitchen got so humid that clothes became damp after a while. Nothing too serious, but still not ideal. The animals were a highlight: three cats and a kitten, five horses, a donkey, several goats and sheep, and loads of chickens and other birds. At night there were frogs hopping around the yard, and the stars were perfectly clear. Breakfast was filling, with homemade bread and cake, juices, yogurts, ham and cheese. For €10, the hosts can arrange a chicken egg hunt that gets you six eggs from their own chickens. We didn't try it, but it could be fun with kids.

The room had everything we needed, and breakfast was amazingly good. They leave it in a basket just outside the door, including the best warm bread I've had. Reception is listed as open until 21:00, but nobody was there at that time. You can call, though they only speak Portuguese.

A peaceful, quiet stay, and the breakfast was a delicious surprise. The staff were extremely helpful too. I'd definitely return.

The resident cat made itself right at home, which was lovely. Comfortable rooms and a nice pool made for very pleasant accommodation.
