My sister and I came because we'd heard about the wines, and we loved the exceptional wine tasting, which was private, as well as the beautiful boutique hotel. The hotel feels like a cozy family home, and everything was perfect. The owners are always on the property and take very good care of their guests. We'll come back and stay again.

This is our favourite place to stay, even if I'm a bit late saying so. It's quiet and rural, away from the beaten track, with a great breakfast. We didn't use the pool, but the walks and nearby recreation are very good. The mattresses are five stars, just what we needed to rest and recover after a long stretch of hard work.

We booked a private wine tasting at the beautiful Quinta Cabeças do Reguengo a day ahead with a simple phone call. Luís welcomed us warmly, along with the cute old pupper Xica. The wines are superb, and Luís was generous with both the pours and his time.

A quiet retreat in the rural Serra de Mamede setting in upper Alentejo, around 4 km from the historic towns of Portalegre and Marvão. It's also not far from the Spanish border, and Caceres, another historic old town, is about a 90-minute drive away. The room was spacious and accessible by elevator, and most of the property was well maintained. The pool was refreshing, and the goat bells were soothing. The bed felt a little firm, while the pillows were overfilled and hard. They could improve those, perhaps with a pillow-top and a mix of two softer, less bulky pillows and two fuller ones. Breakfast was average for Portuguese establishments. The orange juice wasn't freshly squeezed. There was a reasonable selection, but it wasn't something to cherish. The owner specializes in organic wine production, so it's a good place to stock up and enjoy the award-winning 'Terroirs' variety, among others. They produce 20,000/year. The staff were noticeable by their absence. During our stay, we couldn't reach reception at 9am. We also didn't appreciate the chain-smoking from the room below us.
