Hotel Royal

The staff were very, very nice, and the location was great. We were on the fourth floor; the room was small and hard to fit into, with a tiny window and a shower that didn't have a strong stream. They had warned us about that, though, and for one night it was totally fine. The other rooms are probably bigger, so I'd suggest checking them out first.

For the price, we had a nice stay and the reception staff were kind. The room was okay, and the daily cleaning was good, but the shower needed repair. The lobby was tiny, with only a few chairs, so some people waiting had to sit on the stairs. They said there was a shared kitchen, but all we found was a microwave and toaster. That's not a kitchen, and they shouldn't promise one. We stayed two nights in Porto.

The worst part was the shower. I had to lean against the wall to keep from falling, and on our checkout day there was no hot water. I was freezing in the bath while my sister complained. A very nice man suggested waiting or getting dressed, going to another room to shower, then getting dressed again. I was too cold and upset, so I just left and won't return. We were visiting family in our own city and stayed two nights in a triple room. The room was cold and hard to warm up, with no carpet or anything on the floor. The TV was so small I couldn't read the subtitles.

The staff were nice, but couldn't do anything about the main problems: sound carried badly through the paper-thin walls, so it was hard to sleep, the hot water ran out quickly, and the decor looked very dated.
