Hotel Verde Mar & SPA

The reception staff were so friendly and warm that we felt welcome straight away. The hotel is well placed for exploring the island, right by the sea, and the seaside rooms are lovely. You can hear the waves from the room. There’s a warm indoor pool facing the sea, plus a small sauna and steam room, which were great after sightseeing or on rainy days. A supermarket is next door, and the food court in the street has a local feel and excellent value. We used the hotel as a base for road trips and had a great time. Some of the negative reviews were fair: breakfast was plentiful but not tasty, the amenities felt dated, the view included an untended piece of land, and the online photos looked nicer than reality. If you don’t expect a fancy hotel, though, it’s still a good stay. The thing that bothered us was loud children shouting and splashing in the spa. Adult-only wellness hours would help. We’d stay here again, probably in low season, when it’s excellent value.

The rooms were modern, roomy, and clean, with a beautiful ocean view and a balcony we enjoyed. We were greeted by very hospitable staff, and since our room was ready, they let us check in much earlier than expected. We hadn’t even known about the spa when we booked, so it was a welcome bonus. The Turkish spa, sauna, steam room, and very warm pool helped us relax and recover from jet lag after days out exploring. Breakfast was included and good, but dinner was incredible. Before leaving, I had a spa treatment with Eric: a massage, scrub, wrap, and facial. He made the whole thing comfortable and relaxing. We highly recommend the hotel and will definitely return.

The people at the hotel made us feel at home. They helped us choose hiking routes, plan day trips, and find restaurants for the evenings. Every suggestion suited us, and they were kind, helpful, and funny throughout. A big thank you to the whole team for making the stay and trip so memorable. We spent about a week in São Miguel, and the hotel was a wonderful part of it. Our room was spotless, spacious, and well kept, with a breathtaking ocean view that made mornings feel special. Breakfast was another highlight, with a generous range of pastries, fruit, vegetables, cheeses, cold cuts, and local Azorean specialties. The sweet bread was especially delicious. The hotel, food, people, and atmosphere all came together beautifully.

For a short beach break, this hotel works well, especially in an ocean view room. It’s right by the beach with just a small road between, and the sun deck is a nice place to unwind. The staff were helpful and friendly. My ocean view room was comfortable and well equipped, with good linen, a larger bathroom, and a sofa. It was much quieter than the street-facing room I had for my first two nights, which was noisy even with the air conditioning on. Some of the spa facilities weren’t available because the steam bath was out of order. My treatment was fine but basic, and the spa felt smaller and less relaxing than I’d expected for a hotel in this category. Breakfast was a standard continental buffet. The restaurant food was acceptable, nothing special, and the seating could be better. I’d asked for a window seat but was put near the kitchen entrance instead. The bar is a good option for a casual drink or meal. Room service could use more menu choices, and there was an extra 15 euro delivery charge.
